The Main Street Children's Choir (formerly Main Street Singers) began with conversations in 2001 among pastors, church leaders and local music educators about a community children's choir to reach out to the diverse population of children in the greater New Britain area. With start-up support from the church, MSCC began rehearsals in January, 2004, and on May 1, 2004, they gave their first concert. Since then, the choir has become established its own 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, separate from the church, but maintains an office and holds weekly rehearsals (September through May) at the church. Twice yearly, concerts are also held in the church sanctuary. Over the years, the MSCC has performed at New Britain Rock Cats baseball stadium, the New Britain Museum of American Arts, and has been featured at conferences of several professional music organizations. As an after school enrichment opportunity, its mission is to provide the opportunity for children in greater New Britain to sing in choirs that build community, strive for artistic excellence, and foster a life-long love of music.
