CCSU University Athletics
Central Connecticut State University, known as the Blue Devils, is composed of 16 teams representing intercollegiate athletics, including men and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and track and field. Men’s sports include baseball and football. Women’s sports include volleyball, lacrosse, swimming & diving, and softball. The Blue Devils compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Northeast Conference.
The New Britain Bees buzz with collegiate baseball talent. Founded in 2015, this team competes in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, facing off against teams from New England. They play their home games at New Britain Stadium, continuing the tradition of baseball in the city after the departure of a professional team. The Bees’ name is a clever nod to New Britain’s history and motto, linking the city’s industrious spirit with the busy work of these young athletes.
Willow Brook Park includes three sports venues — New Britain Stadium, Veteran’s Memorial Stadium and Beehive Stadium. The park also offers soccer fields, tennis courts, swimming pool, splash pad, and has recently added a 10-piece outdoor exercise equipment circuit for a total fitness workout. Built in 1995, New Britain Stadium is home to the New Britain Bees Atlantic League baseball team. The stadium has split level seating with a concourse around the middle seating area. Access to the field and box seats are below while upper seats are for reserved or general admission seating. Sky boxes are located at the top of the seating bowl on either side of the press box. The stadium seats 6,146 spectators.
